Hi Bernard,

Thanks for the pointer to the demo version of the new interface. May I make a
small suggestion?

I'm looking at the bx_workservers with network_report, descending. The node
graphs exhibit the same problem as previous versions, namely that they are
ordered by instantaneous values (I'm not sure if in or out), and that the
scales vary. Glancing at them as I write (10:15 GMT) the scales are: 400k,
2.0k, 4.0k, 200M, 5,0k and 400k. It looks as though the second display is the
heaviest traffic, when in fact it is only passing about 1.0k in each direction.
 Clicking on either "Show Hosts Scaled: Auto" or "... Same" has no discernable
effect.

First impressions are favourable, I do like the mobile option, it's not just
mobiles that benefit from having on occasion less data presented. The views
option and the associated automatic rotation also look very promising.

Finally a tip. On my site I've added extra time scales at user request. It's
simple enough to do, just add extra lines to the definition of $time_ranges at
the end of /srv/www/html/ganglia/conf.php (or wherever you keep the PHP). I
added:

'10min'=>600,
...
'fortnight'=>1209600,
...
'quarter'=>7862400,
'half'=>15724800,

For the avoidance of doubt: a fortnight is a common term in the UK for two
weeks, it comes from "fourteen-nights". I understand that the term is not used
as much in the USA.

You can find the code here:

http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/ganglia/browser/trunk/monitor-core/libmetrics

If you're looking for specific issues with an existing version, you can look
them up in their respective branches/tags.

Most users just use the standard frontend. Users of larger sites tend to do
more customizations to make Ganglia work more to their needs.
However we are also working on the next generation of the frontend which will
be much more user-friendly and customizable:

You can see a demo of it in action:

But we are also perfectly fine if you want to keep using your own frontend, you
can take a look at the PHP code to see how the integration would work.

Actually, I think Tobi is working on "one frontend to rule them all", so that
you can integrate a bunch of different monitoring solutions but using one
unified dashboard. The holy grail of monitoring systems, if you will :)

Cheers,

Bernard
