Hey all, I was wondering if anyone here knows the status of the CL cookbook. (http://cl-cookbook.sourceforge.net/). It aims to create a compendium of short cookbook-style instructions for common tasks in CL, a la the Perl cookbook. I think this would be a wonderful resources for newbies like myself. It seems like a gardeners-esque project that predates the CL gardeners list.
However, the cookbook doesn't seem to be thriving. The changelog shows the last update in 2005-08-12. I wonder if part of the problem might be that it's setup as a sourceforge CVS repository, with about 15 committers. I'm sure this is good for quality control, but it also places an obstacle in front of people wanting to casually add new material, an obstacle that wouldn't exist, for instance, on a wiki with strong caretaking. For instance, I just got a simple ffi interface working through CFFI. I wanted to write up a very explanation of how to do this, especially as the CFFI example in the CFFI documentation is off-puttingly thorough and complicated. But when I checked the CL cookbook, they have implementation-specific write-ups for ffi but don't say anything about CFFI or UFFI, which seem like a much better choice because of their implementation-portability. So I'm wondering, is the CL cookbook still cooking? If not, is this something that can or should be included in CL gardeners efforts? Or perhaps the cookbook is meant to stay restricted for licensing or other reasons, and there are other forums that are currently providing a larger and more contributable resource? All of this was sparked by me looking for a place to contribute a few paragraphs about how to get up and running with CFFI. cheers, alexis _______________________________________________ Gardeners mailing list [email protected] http://www.lispniks.com/mailman/listinfo/gardeners
