Well, since the invention of macros, there's little reason to change
the language and introduce incompatibilities.

If you prefer shorter names, you can do:

(defmacro dem (&rest args) `(defmacro ,@args))
(dem def (&rest args) `(defun            ,@args))
(dem dec (&rest args) `(defclass         ,@args))
(dem dek (&rest args) `(define-condition ,@args))
;; ...
