There is a problem with the gst ffmpeg plugin:
gst-register
segfaults when attempting to register libgstffmpeg.so.
I looked at bugzilla and found that there were some issues that [may]
have been resolved with the latest version in CVS at freedesktop.org.
I downloaded, built, and installed the CVS version
[from the ChangeLog]
