Tomboy does not show up in the menus because:
./tomboy-0.3.2/data/tomboy.desktop
does not get installed.
* copy the desktop file to the applications directory.
On my system that directory is:
/opt/garnome/share/applications
* edit tomboy.desktop
remove the line:
OnlyShowIn=KDE;
