Pat,

I thought I understood what was happening there, but I've added the ld library 
path into ld.so.conf and it makes no difference. In fact none of the path 
entries in /etc/ld.do.conf or the includes in /etc/ld.conf.d/ seem to active. 
Easiest way round my problem is just to go up to FC5 I think.
