..speaking as the thermochemical gasification puritan ;o), I'd 
keep in mind the Gas List doesn't reject discussion on biochemical
gasification, such as done to make anaerobic digester gas, it makes
an handy useful mockable benchmark for the real thing. ;o)  

..both these 2 major classes of combustible gases can be burnt 
in black magic guerrilla gensets made from automotive engines 
and 3 phase motors, so I'd call Craig's thread (anaerobic digester 
gas for IC engine.(OT)), _on_-topic.

..now for advice on automotive use, unless Craig is prepared to 
haul along a semitrailer tank size digester to go downtown shopping,
he'd probably wanna clean and compress his methane in tanks, or 
chop wood chips for his wee wood gasifier.  ;o)

..both ways allows "dual fuel" schemes with gasoline (or diesel oil) 
as back-up carry-me-home fuel. 

..diesel oil is an _expensive_ ignition fuel, typically 10% 
of the total "dual" fuel combination.
