Hi Pals,
What about a cooled active dip stick for pile top sensing. I am
currently experimenting with a heavy plate, or rod, raised and lowered
on a chain with a float level sensor in between. When the plate rests on
the chips the chain slackens and drops the sensor plunger through the
sensor float shutting or breaking a contact. As the chips drop the plate
falls pulling the sensor through the float. Although I am using this in
an open top affair, is could be possible to slide it through a seal. If
that gums up then drive it off a hinged arm. Chiptec has for a long time
used a hinged arm which passively rides the pile up and down opening and
closing a switch. That works for under or side fed chips. For chips
falling from above it could be coupled to a drop plate and an small
gear-motor to constantly probe the gasifier like a rescuer searching
for survivors after an avalanche.
Did I paint a coherent picture?

Hi,
Can any one provide information on high temperature bed level
sensor/indicator. I want to measure the bed height inside the
gasifier. To make it clear, let me tell you that I am working on a
..what kinda gasifier, co-current fixed bed, counter flow fluidized
bed??? You are _not_ clear here.
gasifier in which the charcoal is being produced continuously online
..how, by free fall sprinkling or augered in from the bottom?
and is continuously fed in the reactor for gasification. Now, I want
to know the level of the fuel bed inside the gasifier reactor so that
I can control the flow of the charcoal inside the gasifier reactor.
The temperature inside the gasifier part is around 1150-1200 deg C.
.."all over the place", or just the combustion zone lens?
..absent any word on this, you're stuck with dangling your
gasifier rig from weight cells.
