AUBURN UNIVERSITY -

An exhibit featuring Auburn University's biomass gasifier will be on
display Saturday, October 12 at Ag Heritage Park from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
The exhibit is part of a two-week, tri-state road show which is part of this
year's Ag Roundup and Taste of Alabama Agriculture.

The AU gasifier converts wood chips and other plant-based materials into
biofuels and energy. The electricity generated from the biomass will be
used to power big-screen TVs.

The mobile tour is sponsored by the Southeast Partnership for Integrated
Biomass Supply Systems. IBSS is a research partnership involving Auburn
University, the University of Tennessee, the University of Georgia, North
Carolina State University and private industry. The goal of the
collaboration is to develop economically and environmentally sustainable
production and conversion of biomass to biofuel in the Southeast.

Steve Taylor, the head of the Department of Biosystems and the director
of the Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts at Auburn, says the university's
primary role in IBSS is to develop safe, sustainable and efficient feedstock
logistics and advance thermochemical conversion technologies to transform
energy crops and other biomass into reliable, affordable fuels.

The road show has made stops in Birmingham and Oak Ridge, Tennessee and
at the University of Tennessee and the University of Georgia. The mission
for the road show is to make young people aware of the science involved in
developing biofuels and the potential benefits of biofuels to society.
