Corn stover including cobs and stalks can be pyrolyzed into biochar as a soil amendment. The volatile gases being driven off can be used to heat a self-sustaining retort and supply excess heat for cooking or drying feedstock. Stover is light and has a low energy density. Besides the clinker issue, much larger filters are needed to supply clean producer gas compared with other feed stocks. Corn cob gasifiers are not unknown, as a simple Google search will demonstrate.
