Actually, there was a reason, Ole Miss changed the defense. They went from a zone to a man to man coverage. We had just completed 3 consecutive passes underneath the two deep zone with little pressure on Tebow. Ole Miss went to man to man and blitz, but Tebow missed them. Everybody believes that the play was called for the post, but I am not so sure, I believe it is entirely possible that Tebow saw the coverage and changed the play. Both pass plays were open we just missed them. At this point I want to reiterate something that Dave Rice pointed out. When in the no back set, there are only 5 blockers, the defensive counter measure is to blitz from one side or the other to overload the defenders. This nothing new, Bo Pellini and Nebraska showed everyone how to defend the no back set in 1995. The point is you don't have time for a receiver to run a deep route, instead the receiver to hook up where the blitzer is coming from and have the quarterback deliver the ball. I know for a fact that Riley Cooper missed the read once, and Tebow missed seeing Harvin on another. Since I am on a roll, a couple of other things to consider. Rainey and Demps are just too small to run inside the tackles, a strong wind will knock them over. With Tartt out and Moody injured we had no inside running game and as much as I like Rainey and Demps, neither is Percy Harvin. Deonte Thompson, Carl Moore, Louis Murphy, Aaron Hernandez, and Percy Harvin, you have 3 seconds to decide who you are going to get the ball to, who are you going to choose? My point is, maybe we are trying to get the ball to the other guys, maybe Tebow is locking onto Harvin. My reasoning for this is the touchdown pass Tebow threw to Harvin. If the Ole Miss defender could catch, that would have been a pick six going the other way, Tebow clearly was looking at Harvin the whole way. _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Stacey Hartley-McBride Sent: Monday, September 29, 2008 2:01 PM To: gatortalk Subject: [gatortalk] Ole Miss game All, My thoughts during that last drive of the game were: why are we spending 1st and 2nd down chucking a long pass (incomplete) to the end zone instead of continuing to get around 10 yards at a time like we had been doing up to that point? I was so perplexed! My limited view on Raycom showed me the Ole Miss defense was practically giving us the short passes, to better defend the long ones. Why oh why weren't we exploiting that? The 3rd down run was beautiful, but not quite enough (9 yards). We all know what happened on 4th down. There was enough time to continue the 9-10 yards at a time. It was as if we simply didn't want to win this game. Tebow should not take all the blame, and Meyer shouldn't let him. This starts with the coaching and goes all the way down the line with all the mental and physical mistakes. All this said, it is GREAT to be a FLORIDA GATOR!!!! Let's get our teeth and claws back into the game and go to Arkansas to kick some piggy butt!
