Oh, you just HAD to go and remind of the '42 game, didn't you? As if I didn't
have enough reason to hate them already!

I'LL WATCH! I'LL WATCH!! :-)

Subject: [gatortalk] one good reason to hate Georgia

One simply has to look at the Nov 7, 1942 game. The heroic players of the
University had enlisted en masse the summer before and were all gone off to
war. Wally Butts, head coach of the dogs, seeing an opportunity recruited
players to come to Georgia and avoid military duty. Two of those military
slackers were Frank Sinkwich, who won the Heisman Trophy for 1942 and Charlie
Trippi, the eventual Maxwell award winner.

Georgia won the national championship that year, went undefeated with a team
of ringers who should have been serving their country.

Of course they beat the Gators 75-0. We didn't have anyone but new students
to play the game. It is a testament to their fortitude that they kept the game
so close.

Georgia, of course, looks to this date with pride.

One last thing, when the Interstate highway system was being numbered, a
senator from Georgia wanted I-75 so named in order to honor their tainted 1942
win.

  Go Gators!! Beat the Dogs!!!
