Speaking of the "ole ball coach", there is a rumor going around up here in
Tennessee that he is negotiating with UT and that they are working on an offer
for him. I have been "ho humming" these rumors because I don't believe he would
be "talking" to anyone before the season ends, but then, as we found out later,
his agent had been talking with the Redskins before OUR season ended.

Subject: [gatornews] Grading the Gators vs Vanderbilt

  Grading The Gators vs. VU

The Florida Gators will return to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta as the
SEC Eastern Division Champion after cruising to a 41 - 14 victory over the
Vanderbilt University Commodores in Nashville, TN on Saturday night. The
Gators jumped out to 28 - 0 lead with three minutes gone in the second quarter
and were never really challenged.

  FIRST IMPRESSIONS

  IMPRESSIVE:

Tim Tebow, the first team offense, the first team defense, special teams,
mental preparation

  SOLID:

You were impressive or you need work

  NEED WORK:

There is a reason they are called backups, they can use the work.

  THE GRADES

  DEFENSIVE LINE:

Through two and a half quarters the defensive line was very impressive with
solid pressure and limiting the run. Vanderbilt's more athletic quarterback
Chris Nickson gave the defensive fits in the second half by breaking
containment several times.

  GRADE B+

  LINEBACKERS:

MLB Brandon Spikes and WLB Ryan Stamper lead the defense in tackles with
seven stops each. Spikes had two tackles for losses. Backups Brandon Hicks
and Lorenzo Edwards struggled in the second half

  GRADE B+

  DEFENSIVE BACKS:

CB Ahmad Black intercepted another pass, his fifth of the season, as the
Gators completely shut down Vanderbilt's passing attack in the first half
(47-yards). Despite allowing just 67-yards passing in the second half, the
reserves did allow to passing touchdowns for the Commodores.

  GRADE C

  OFFENSIVE LINE:

The Gators scored six out of the first seven times they had the ball as the
starting offensive line was absolutely dominant to start the game. The
starting offensive line did not allow a sack and paved the way for 240 yards on
the ground. The reserves could only muster 8 total yards on three drives.

  GRADE A-

  RECEIVERS:

WR's Louis Murphy, Riley Cooper, and David Nelson had the touchdowns catches,
Carl Moore lead in reception with four, while Percy Harvin had three
consecutive first down receptions totaling 32 yards and rushed for 60 yards and
a touchdown. Collectively a very efficient and very impressive performance.

  GRADE A+

  RUNNING BACKS:

Not a lot of productions in terms of stats, but the RB's Emmanuel Moody,
Chris Rainey, and Jeffrey Demps looked pretty good getting what they got, 95
yards on 16 carries for a 6 yard per carry average.

  GRADE A

  QUARTERBACK:

Tim Tebow played on of his most efficient and impressive performance as a
Gator. Tebow accounted for the first 5 Gator touchdowns. Tebow completed 12
passes, out of 17 attempts, for 171 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing
eleven times for two scores. Tebow's 26-yard touchdown run on Florida's second
possession was a career long run. Reserve John Brantley struggled, throwing
his first interception of his career and failing to move the offense

  GRADE A-

  KICKING/SPECIALTY:

Another game another blocked punt, actually two blocked punts, both by DE
Carlos Dunlap. Both blocked punts led to scores. Punting and extra points
were solid, coverage teams were up to snuff, and the Gators appear to have
settled on Caleb Sturgis to handle the kickoff duties.

  GRADE A+

  COACHING:

Offensive coordinator Dan Mullen didn't have to go deep into the playbook as
the Gators benefited from great field position early, thanks to the blocked
punts, and pretty much had everything working anyway. Defensive coordinators
Charlie Strong's defense didn't give up it's initial first down until late in
the second quarter and by then it was 28 - 0. Special teams coach Urban Meyer
had to be satisfied as special teams played inspired football and played a
crucial part in the victory

GRADE Offense A Defense A Special Teams A

  FANS:

Looked like a solid Gator following in attendance, but this was a television
game for me.

  GRADE I

  FINAL THOUGHTS

Percy Harvin scored, I couldn't believe the referees didn't overturn that
call. Tim Tebow has really looked like a Heisman trophy winning quarterback
these last 5 games. With Penn State's loss to Iowa the Gators have a realistic
chance at things beyond an SEC Championship, but we can't get ahead of
ourselves. The Old Ball Coach is coming to town and he would like nothing
better than to win one against his old team.

  OVERALL GRADE: A=
