He was my hero in '66 too. But, I wasn't 16 yet. I was only 13.
Weren't you 26?

Not only did I NOT hate him Saturday, but I'll never hate him as long as
I live. He's been one of my heroes since I was 16 years old in '66.

I'll reserve one day a year to hate Steve Spurrier. The rest of
the time he's still the greatest Gator. Our program wouldn't nearly be
where it is today without him.

You were right, Jay, the visor pulled down too low was a nice
touch. He was more animated than usual Saturday. That was my one day
to hate him. :-)

I agree. I'll always consider him a gator and wish him well, but
I think if he was going to coach college football again, he should've
avoided the SEC. Personally, I think he has a ax to grind with Jeremy
and Machen for not offering him the position when he made it obvious he
was available. I think he had the attitude "I'll show 'em" and that's
just too bad. He would've had a better chance of that at Bama or UT than
USC. Since he's rich, he probably should've just retired.

Maybe he wants to burn out instead of rusting away. ;-)

I didn't feel sorry for him for one second. I
appreciate all that SOS did for UF, both as a player and a coach. But
it is my opinion that by the end of his tenure, he was more about SOS
than he was about UF. He had the opportunity to have his legacy
continue if he had planned his departure better and in fact left UF in
quite a bind during recruiting season.

Once he decided to come back and coach another SEC East
team, he became Gatorbait. Once he retires, he will be restored to his
rightful place in Gatordom, but as long as he is wearing red and black
as the head cock, we can never beat him by enough.

Seeing Spurrier coming back to The Swamp and getting
clobbered was like watching an aging Sinatra returning to the Sands and
forgetting the words to "My Way."

                Wow. Good analogy.

I was happy and relieved that we won, but I have to
admit I did feel sorry for SOS. I hope he cab accomplish something at
South Carolina, just not at our expense.
