This wasn't a great week for former Gators.
It started on Friday when the Pittsburgh Steelers, hurt by multiple injuries
in the secondary, cut former UF receiver Dallas Baker to make room for the
signing of cornerback Roy Lewis.
Baker had dropped several balls in recent weeks, including one on the final
play in the end zone of a 23-20 loss to Indianapolis on Nov. 20.
The bad luck continued Sunday, when former Gator running back Earnest Graham
injured his ankle on the first play of Tampa Bay's win over Minnesota. Graham
hobbled off the field and did not return. He may not return again this year.
"His status for the rest of the season is very much in question right now,"
Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden said Monday. "I don't have the exact medical terms,
but I will say right now, it doesn't look like he'll play any time soon."
Then, once you thought that the NFL week was over, the Oakland Raiders
announced late Monday that they were releasing former Gator tight end Ben
Troupe. A foot injury landed Troupe on the injured reserve list on Oct. 21, and
his prospects for remaining with the team weren't great after not logging a
catch this year.
And somewhere in the middle of all of this, but outside of the professional
ranks, a former Gator quarterback, and Heisman Trophy winner, suffered his
worst coaching loss ever at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday night.
Tough week, indeed.
