Right now, Gators don't deserve to play for national title
posted by Mike Bianchi on Nov 24, 2008 6:43:09 AMIs Bob Stoops telling the Gators, "I want you!"Let the politicking begin. And, right now, if I had to vote, I'd vote Alabama and Oklahoma in the national title game. Why Oklahoma ahead of Florida?Because both teams have identical records, but the Sooners have a more impressive win -- and a more impressive loss. There is no win on Florida's schedule as impressive as the way Oklahoma dismantled unbeaten Texas Tech 65-21 Saturday night. And nobody can argue that Oklahoma's one loss to Texas at a neutral site is more impressive than Florida's one loss at home loss to Ole Miss earlier in the season. In fact, the same can be said for the Texas Longhorns, whose one loss was on the road at Texas Tech is more impressive than Florida's one loss at home to Ole Miss."If you're going to forgive a team (Florida) for losing at home to an unranked team because they're playing well now -- well, we're playing pretty well now, too. If it's logical for someone else, it's logical for us," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said.Even though Stoopsy is obviously stumping for his team, iIt's hard to argue with him on this one. Then again, does it really matter? This all just part of the weekly BC-Mess rhetoric at this pointJust because I believe Florida should be ranked behind Oklahoma this week doesn't mean that will be the case next week or the week after. If the Gators win their next two games -- at No. 23 Florida State and vs. No. 1-ranked Alabama in the SEC Championship Game -- against ranked opponents then they will have earned their spot in the national championship game.
