I'm not a bettor, but if I were, I'd take the Gators and -3!

Florida vs. Oklahoma: Who Is Favored?

By Pete Thamel <http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/author/pete-thamel/>

ATLANTA - Oklahoma and Florida don't play for more than a month, but at
least one early betting line is in. The sports analyst Danny Sheridan
said in a telephone interview on Sunday night that he'd make Florida a
3-point favorite in the national title game matchup with Oklahoma. He
said that he'd set the over-under in the game at 72.

Sheridan, who sets lines for USA Today, also passed along these
impressive statistics. As dominant as both teams have been on the field
this year, they've been equally impressive for bettors. Florida is 10-1
against the line this year. (The Gators' game against The Citadel didn't
have a spread.) Oklahoma is 10-2.

When setting lines, Sheridan stresses that he's not predicting the
winner. He's simply figuring the perception of the game with the betting
public.

"This will be one of the most bet games in history," Sheridan said. "It
will do well in the ratings and it will do well in the betting. That's
no surprise, as they're two teams that can score."

Is 3 points too many or too few? Can a national title game really have
more than 72 points?
