If the bowl game is sponsered by Champs Sports (I assume is sporting good store) - why not a $400 gift certificate to Champs Sports instead of Best Buy?
I guess Best Buy is a lower level sponser?
2 teams * 85 players per team (travel squad) * $400 per player = $68,000.
I don't know if like coaches, equipment managers, athletic department employees, prominate boosters, etc also get these or not?
I wonder if band and cheerleaders also get these packages?
What about other players not on the travel squad?
That $68,000 could easily double.
I assume the $500 limit only applies to the players and students (cheerleaders, band, etc). I assume that boosters and UF employees could take however much they are given.

Thought counts: All bowl gifts aren't equalAsk any college football player about whether there are too many bowl games and you might get a puzzled look. After all, you haven't seen some of these bowl gift packs.Go ahead and scoff at the St. Petersburg Bowl between USF and Memphis. The players just ran off with mini camcorders and noise-canceling headphones.Bowls are permitted to give players $500 worth of bowl gifts. They range from standard-issue bowl souvenirs such as hooded sweatshirts and mini-helmets to nifty electronics such as iPods and Nintendo Wiis. Here's a list of all the bowl goodie bags this season:---------------------------snip, snip, snip---------------------------CHAMPS SPORTSFlorida State-Wisconsin, Dec. 27 in Orlando, Fla.

The verdict: What a genius bowl gift. The players get exactly the electronics they want with the shopping spree and the bowl officials can skip some of the legwork.
