My apology to the entire Gator World for being arrogant and condescending.
Have a Happy New Years. Slugger. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of NZ Gator Sent: Wednesday, December 31, 2008 10:32 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [gatortalk] Re: Lighten Up I seem to recall in the popular Dale Carnegie book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, there is an entire section on how the best way to repair a poor first impression is to be arrogant and condescending in your second attempt. Way to go! If you had come into my home and insulted me, then responded to my objection by telling me to lighten up and get a life, you would have received a much less restrained response than you've gotten here. Well, this is our Gator sports home. It's where a group of Gator friends come to talk about Gator sports without having to debate fans of other teams or be told that we are enjoying ourselves too much. It's where we don't have to be completely reasonable in our criticism of our rivals or completely objective in our support for the Gators. Win or lose, we make no apologies for being passionate. If you are not a Gator, then you are our guest here and we expect our guests to conduct themselves well. Since you broke the rules that you had just agreed to with your very first message, I think 'I apologize' would have gone over much better than 'get a life'. I respectfully suggest that the Swamp Gas forum at gatorcountry.com would be a better place for you to bait Gator fans before the game. This bridge may not be completely burned, but it's charred and may not be worth repairing. Rob -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [gatortalk] Lighten Up From: Slugger <[email protected]> Date: Tue, December 30, 2008 7:34 pm To: GatorTalk <[email protected]> It appears that I have cause quite a stir in Gator Land...Yes, I am a Sooner, born and raised in the land of wheat, oil wells and football. I make no apology for my heritage and I wear it proudly as all native Oklahomans do. In just a few days two teams who have earned the right to play for the National Championship will meet to decide who is the better team. Unlike what appears to be an abyss of Gator euphoria we Sooners know that it is just a game. It is played and the better team wins. Yes, we will like you yell and scream for our team and against yours, but in the end it is still a game. Neither you nor I can do anything about the outcome. Our job is to support our team. Now I appreciate the opportunity to have joined in your group for some light hearted bantering but now is the time to stop chastising my friend for asking me to join your group. I would hope that if you had joined my Sooner group you would not have been so brazenly castigated by the other Sooner faithful. Now lighten up all of you Gator faithful and get a life...because after January 8th you will only be able to wish for what may have been, could have been.
