I don't understand how 40% are rejected when the average is so high? Do they say that if your average is less than a 3.9, you need not apply? How is it that our rejection rate is not much higher?

Yap is a senior in the International Baccalaureate program at Eastside High School in Gainesville, boasts a 4.85 weighted grade-point average and holds leadership roles in multiple student clubs. One might expect him to be a shoo-in for admission into UF, but he said that friends with similar credentials were denied. "It's pretty tough," he said. "UF rejected people that I wasn't expecting." Last week, UF posted admission decisions online for nearly 27,000 high school students hoping to enroll at the university.
