Ash'lea IS an impressive young woman. The husband & I are wondering
if the grapevine will give up the real reason why. Her players adore
her, there are no on-campus rumors (according to my PKY Senior class
source), her program is not being investigated, so what gives???
Never mind her brothers, her mother (Delphine) is a very influential
and upstanding member of the Gainesville community.

Ash'lea Moore, the P.K. Yonge girls basketball coach whose firing
was revealed on Monday despite leading the Blue Wave to a 28-1 record
and a Class 3A state runner-up finish in 2008-09, is considering legal
action, but not for monetary gain.

According to a source close to the situation, Moore has retained an
out-of-town attorney with the sole intention of getting her job back.
"That's all she wants," the source said. "Ash'lea's a lifer, she
loves P.K. Yonge."
On Monday, The Sun made attempts to reach P.K. Yonge director Fran
Vandiver, who fired Moore in a meeting last Friday. However, calls
to the school and Vandiver's home went unreturned. When a reporter
visited P.K. Yonge in an attempt to talk with her Tuesday morning, he
was told by Vandiver's secretary that she was home sick.
Blue Wave athletic director John Clifford was not in the meeting
last Friday and said he has not had the opportunity to speak with
Vandiver, yet. He did offer a comment about Moore, whom he has known
since she was a child.
"I think the reason Ash'lea was fired had nothing to do with
coaching," Clifford said. "She did nothing immoral or unethical.
She's a great basketball coach."
Moore is a 2000 graduate of the school, where she served as student
body president and was The Sun's player of the year after leading her
team to a 22-5 record and the final four as a senior. After that, she
was a walk-on guard for Florida. Prior to being promoted to head
coach, she was an assistant under former Blue Wave girls coach Willie
Powers. Following P.K. Yonge's 2008 state semifinal loss to Fort Myers
Dunbar in Lakeland, Powers announced he was stepping down and named
Moore as his hand-picked replacement.
