You give me way too much credit, Randy, but thank you. Living where I do, it is well protected by mountains on either side. Therefore, we get much less snow and rain than you do in Chattanooga, as it is pretty dry here. The humidity levels are typically very low, like the desert but not so severe. The worst part about living so far north is the darkness - it gets dark at 4pm in the dead of winter, which is, well, UGH! Conversely, it stays light until 9:30pm in the summer, which is, well, YEAH! Right now we are transitioning to spring, and our tulips are sprouting in the front yard - lovely!
I will keep you and the others on this list looking for jobs in my prayers. As I told Cee "offline," there is always hope. My brother is a CPA, but decided to grow a business building homes over the past 6 years or so. After much success, he could no longer make ends meet in the Florida building market, and was able to get a job as an accountant in Tampa (started in December). He is 44 years old and got the job over 200 applicants, despite his years away from accounting. So, keep the faith - something will come along. I am keeping Leon in my prayers, too. Check out Battelle, as well as the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (www.pnl.gov), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (in Oak Ridge, Tennesee), Brookhaven National Laboratory (in Long Island, NY), or Idaho National Laboratory (BFE land in Idaho). There are also other national laboratories not operated by Battelle. Sandia National Laboratory (in Albuquerque, NM), Los Alamos National Laboratory (in Los Alamos, NM), Savannah River (in South Carolina - don't know which city off the top of my head), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Livermore, CA), Lawrence Berkely National Laboratory (Berkeley). The Nevada Test Site also hires people with differing backgrounds in various roles. Randy, your sales and IT background would make you a good candidate for project and program management up here. There is always a need for people who can sell stuff but still speak the technical language. You may want to check out Savannah River. Cee, all of these laboratories have huge financial groups who need people with your background to fill various roles. I realize none of these possibilities are located in Florida (if there were, I'd be THERE), but I am happy to help any Gators where I can if you want to apply to PNNL up here.
