Agreed. I try not to drink 2 Gator cups of coffee before rowing. Almost
killed me. Of course, I may have been dehydrated from the night before?

Matthews' job is to talk and Meyer's is to protect his team

Believe me, caffeine is ok during exercise. Too much during exercise is
not. Too much before is not. But caffeine is helpful to keep or bring
back focus and energy when you're exhausted. You should also remain
well hydrated while ingesting caffeine.

No caffeine during exercise. It will cause dehydration. Some people died
after drinking too much redbull.

He agrees with Meyer... I just wish the whole episode would be solved
between Meyer and Matthews.

He says players should discard sweet tea and soft drinks in favor of
water.

Actually during exercise the caffeine and sugar in both of those would
help. While you're not practicing it would be a good idea to use water
over the sweet stuff.

While I don't necessarily agree with Meyer's "you're either a Gator or
not" philosophy, I can't help but side with the coach. Because while
Matthews or anybody else has the right to voice his opinion, Meyer has
the right to keep what he views as negative energy away from his players
and assistant coaches.

I have no doubt Matthews bleeds orange and blue, having been Spurrier's
first All-SEC quarterback. Unfortunately, his job requires an unbiased,
honest assessment of the Gators. But Meyer's job, which he seems to do
quite well, is to protect his players, former players' feelings be
darned ...

With spring football kicking into high gear, parents should stay on
their players about the importance of hydration. Players need to put
down the soft drinks and sweet tea in favor of the good old H2O to
lessen the risk of heat related illnesses during what is expected to be
a hotter than normal spring season. By the way, I'm not a doctor, I just
play one on TV.
