I think if I was a Tennessee fan (and I find it hard to imagine such a thing) I would be very worried about this season. Even though Kiffin surrounded himself with some respectable coaches, he is unlikely to have much success this year with the lower quality of talent. A mediocre or losing season this year will certainly give pause to his supporters. A significant decline from Fulmer’s last season record could spell disaster next recruiting season. He did relatively well last year but the talk needs to give place to walk! We might see some of the recruits from this year wanting to jump ship if the Vols have a bad season.
On another note, Is there any of the 11 players that left that we might want? SOS won games and then ran his mouth. SOS has been very humble since leaving the Gators because his results at Redskins and South Carolina have not been anything to brag about. Other than his wife, and her poster of Tebow, what does Kiffin have to brag about? the lack of talent he inherited? having 11 scholarship players leave a team already thin at talent? all the NCAA and SEC rules / regulations that he broke? Any fans that would be happy at this point must be delusional. Its one thing for a coach to come in, roll up his sleeves, admit they are in a hole, and they are going to pull together and work harder than any other team to dig themselves out of the hole. Tennesse is going to get their butts handed to them. Instead of going into games and being the hunter, being the underdog, being the team that you feel sorry for - who is going to want Tennesse to do well this year - versus who is wanting to see them lose by 100 points - each and every week? Most of the teams in the SEC - I don't care who they play each week - unless they are playing us. But I already know that on Sept 5 - I am pulling for Western kentucky, Sept 12 I am pulling for UCLA, on Sept 19 there will be a MAJOR butt whipping in the swamp, ... I can't wait to see Kiffin, Bowden, and Randy Shannon all fired at the end of this year. Plus us win another SEC and NC - and it will be an exceptional year. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [gatortalk] Re: [SUN]: Vols, Kiffin deal with defections From: "Gatornet Admin" <[email protected]> Date: Sat, May 09, 2009 8:10 am To: <[email protected]> Oliver and Shane will probably agree with me, but I can tell you that the vol fans LOVE him! They say he reminds them of SOS in the 90's and they are hoping for the same kind of results we had with SOS. His own fans? - tired of "all hat and no cattle", "all flash no cash", etc His staff? - Kiffin raises the bar - when they have no talent to jump that high Other SEC schools? Kiffin accusing them of cheating then we find out it is Kiffin that is violating rules His own players? - leaving the team in droves. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [gatortalk] [SUN]: Vols, Kiffin deal with defections From: "Shane Ford" <[email protected]> Date: Fri, May 08, 2009 9:44 pm To: Gatortalk <[email protected]>, Vols, Kiffin deal with defections The Associated Press Published: Friday, May 8, 2009 at 3:48 p.m. Last Modified: Friday, May 8, 2009 at 3:48 p.m. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A total of 11 Tennessee players with scholarships have left the Volunteers football program under new coach Lane Kiffin, including four since the end of spring practice. A team spokesman confirmed that wide receivers Ahmad Paige and Tyler Maples, offensive guard Darris Sawtelle and quarterback B.J. Coleman have left the program since the team’s Orange and White scrimmage game on Apr. 18. Kiffin, who was introduced at Tennessee last December, said during a Big Orange Caravan stop earlier this week that he only wants players who want to play for the Vols. Tennessee is allowed a total of 85 scholarship players each season under NCAA rules. <BR --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
