I'm always pleased when our "reporters" are shown appreciation for what they
do. Of course, they will say it is a "labor of love", and while I am familiar
with that sentiment, I also know from personal experience (as does Jerry) the
time and dedication it requires to "feed" the Gatornews "machine". :)

Jerry and I are going to give each of our "reporters" a raise this year.
Instead of the annual "pat on the back", we're going to give them TWO pats on
the back! :)

Thanks guys and gals!

Randy

  Shane,

Thank you and all the others for sending in the news everyday. It is
quite a treat to follow the Gators this way. I look forward to reading all the
news each evening and I think about all the hard word that is involved.

  Go Gators,

  Fran

This is the third in a 25-part series exploring the Gatorsports.com preseason
poll of the top teams in college football.

  No. 23 MIAMI HURRICANES

  2008 record: 7-6

  Returning starters offense/defense: 8/8

Strength: A talented and experience offensive line give the 'Canes hope for
an explosive offense. With a little more help from his wide receivers,
sophomore quarterback Jacory Harris could lead a dangerous air assault.

Weakness: UM might have eight returning starters on defense, but in its six
loses last season, defensive lapses were often to blame. The 'Canes have a good
mix of talent and experience. The problem is too few players who have both.

Biggest star: Miami hasn't had its usual caliber of college football
superstar lately. So the choice here is steady junior tailback Graig Cooper,
who at 6-feet tall and 200 pounds is capable of being the offensive workhorse.

Rising star: Harris is the man, now that Robert Marve has transferred to
Purdue. Harris beat out Marve for the job, anyway, completing 60.8 percent of
his passes for 1,195 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.

Toughest game: The 'Canes play host to Oklahoma on Oct. 3. It's possible the
Sooners won't be all that thrilled to return to Dolphin Stadium, site of last
January's BCS Title game loss to Florida. Oklahoma poses a much more difficult
challenge to Miami than any of UM's ACC opponents.
