RE: [gatortalk] Re: [gatornews] Today's Gatornews from Miami Herald and Palm
Beach PostArt,

Since I'm back at work now, I have very little time for something like this.
Send him to www.gatornet.us where he read about our history, and as far as his
statements about Jenkins, maybe someone on Gatortalk can help.

Sorry,

Randy

  Hi Randy,
Ben Volin is the Gator beat writer for The Palm Beach Post.
Attached is my initial correspondence to him and his reply about the
Jenkins matter. I thought you might want to answer his question about GatorNet,
etc. If not, I'd appreciate your ghost writing of a reply for me to send to
him.
I think he is a very fair writer, unlike most of the other Post sports
writers, so I want to be able to respond to him accurately and promptly. Who
knows, he may decide to join and then we can really indoctrinate him (so he
won't be fair and imbalanced against the Gators).
  Go Gators!

Hi Art, thanks for the e-mail (though sending it seven times wasn't
necessary!) The e-mail is a bit confusing. What is GatorTalk? And why do people
think I have questions about Janoris Jenkins that went unanswered? Seemed like
a pretty cut-and-dry story to me.

  Thanks a lot,

  Ben

did Gainesville police shoot Jenkins with a Taser gun in the first place?
Something is fishy here. Either the Gainesville district attorney is letting
Jenkins off easy or the Gainesville police should be investigated for excessive
use of force.
Are you kidding me? In Gaineville, you can get tased for heckling John Kerry.

  2. If the district attorney dropped the charge for fighting, does that mean
Jenkins can sue the Gainesville police for getting shot with a Taser gun for
essentially doing nothing wrong?Well, anyone can sue anyone for just about
anything. That said, the dropping of the charges wouldn't prove anything in a
civil suit.

  3. If there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute the fighting charge, then why
is there sufficient evidence to prosecute the misdemeanor for resisting arrest?
They are independent charges. In the old days, if you were innocent of the
claimed offense that formed the basis for the arrest, you were within your
rights to resist the arrest without violence. No more. So, if you run from the
police after the magic words have been said, you have committed the crime of
resisting arrest.

It wouldn't have been tough for this writer to find answers to his questions.
