1. They should have mentioned Brantley as the #3 or #4 QB in the SEC.  Tebow #1, Jevon Snead #2, Garcia / Brantley tied for third?

2. Is it SEC QBs are so bad - or SEC defense is so good.  Look at Big 12 QBs last year and then when they played SEC defenses in bowl games.

A passing glance at SEC QBs

Ole Miss' Jevan Snead, Kentucky's Mike Hartline, South Carolina's Stephen Garcia and Florida's Tim Tebow.

The SEC may have had the national champions for the third straight year last season but the league had very little to offer as far as quarterback play. Of the top 100 quarterbacks in the country in passing efficiency, only eight were from the SEC.

And five of them have moved on. In fact, of the projected starters heading into this season, only Tim Tebow and Jevan Snead have thrown for double-digit touchdowns in a season.

So will the league, after a down year for quarterback play, be better at the position in 2009? It says something that the quarterbacks who shared third-team honors on the coaches' preseason team were a guy who threw two more interceptions than he did touchdowns last year (Stephen Garcia) and a guy who was benched during last season (Mike Hartline).
Sun sports columnist Pat Dooley takes a look at each team heading into SEC Media Days this week.

ALABAMA
Last year: John Parker Wilson
This year: Greg McElroy
The skinny: McElroy looked good in the spring and will have the advantage of playing for a team relying on defense and the running game.
Better, worse or the same: Wilson was a solid quarterback so there is a slight drop-off.
ARKANSAS
Last year: Casey Dick
This year: Ryan Mallett
The skinny: Bobby Petrino loves what the 6-foot-7 Michigan transfer brings to the table, but he has yet to experience the SEC.
Better, worse or the same: Major upgrade for the Razorbacks, he could be this year's Snead.
AUBURN
Last year: Kodi Burns and Chris Todd
This year: Who knows?
The skinny: With a new coach and new offense, the biggest issue for the Tigers is the starter could be any one of four players.
Better, worse or the same: It's still a mess. Auburn is in the bottom three in the league in quarterback play.
FLORIDA
Last year: Tim Tebow
This year: Tim Tebow
The skinny: Obviously, the former Heisman Trophy winner is the best in the league and one of the best in the country.
Better, worse or the same: You would think that Tebow's improvement would continue, so better.
GEORGIA
Last year: Matthew Stafford
This year: Joe Cox
The skinny: Cox has waited his turn but was not impressive in the spring game, and the Bulldogs may play more than one quarterback.
Better, worse or the same: Stafford was the No. 1 pick in the draft so there will obviously be a drop-off.
KENTUCKY
Last year: Mike Hartline and Randall Cobb
This year: Mike Hartline
The skinny: Hartline was awful, so bad the Wildcats turned to Cobb. This year Cobb could line up in Wildcat formations at quarterback but will play wide receiver.
Better, worse or the same: The same unless Hartline shows a massive improvement.
LSU
Last year: Jarrett Lee
This year: Jordan Jefferson
The skinny: Jefferson looked sharp in the bowl game after taking the snaps with the first team leading up to it.
Better, worse or the same: Has to be better than the mistake-prone Lee.
MISSISSIPPI
Last year: Jevan Snead
This year: Jevan Snead
The skinny: Snead struggled early but came on strong when Ole Miss went on its run late in the season. He could be a darkhorse Heisman contender.
Better, worse or the same: With a year under his belt, Snead should be improved.
MISSISSIPPI STATE
Last year: Wesley Carroll
This year: Tyson Lee
The skinny: It's going to be difficult for Dan Mullen to get his offense to work without a solid quarterback. He may be forced to turn to freshman Tyler Russell.
Better, worse or the same: Better offense, so should be a slight upgrade.
SOUTH CAROLINA
Last year: Chris Smelley
This year: Stephen Garcia
The skinny: If Garcia can stay out of trouble, he certainly has the skills. But can he handle Steve Spurrier?
Better, worse or the same: Spurrier is struggling to get Garcia where he needs him to be, so we'll say worse.
TENNESSEE
Last year: Jonathan Crompton and Nick Stephens
This year: Jonathan Crompton
The skinny: Both quarterbacks were awful last year, which is why Phillip Fulmer didn't survive the season.
Better, worse or the same: It can't be any worse. It will be interesting to see how Lane Kiffin handles the situation.
VANDERBILT
Last year: Mackenzi Adams
This year: Larry Smith
The skinny: Adams was pedestrian last season but could take over the job eventually. The coaches think Smith gives them more options.
Better, worse or the same: Nothing special until we see otherwise. The same.
