Rays not able to sign former Gator baseball signee

Monday was the deadline for signing 2009 draft selections. An infielder/outfielder, Washington also was a Gator baseball signee, but a Florida spokesperson said last week that Washington has not met the academic requirements to attend UF. Washington's options now include junior college and independent baseball. The nation's fastest high school baseball player last year, Washington was The Sun's 2009 high school player of the year. Phone calls made to Washington starting last Thursday have gone unreturned.
