I thought I was the talker doing the inviting, but let's not quibble.

I thought you said the one time you thought you were wrong you were mistaken?

I thought the speaker implies and the listener infers.

Of course, I could be wrong. It's been known to happen.

Don't you mean "inferred?"

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Well, I can see how that could be implied from my invitation, but it was not my
intent.

I am simply disturbed by the uniform view of the world presented by the fewer
print media sources that we have available.

I took at as an invitation to discuss whether the print media has a political
bias, and whether its decline may benefit (or even be encouraged by) a
political party.

Those would be subjects that, as Leon implied, are best kept out of Gatortalk.

Thank you for the invitation, Leon.

Is taking something to THFGT the same as asking someone to step outside?

I'd love to join THFGT, but I suspect if I did, I'd spend way too much time
arguing with people, and my work and home life would suffer. It would
definitely be a guilty pleasure, but my wife and son would probably kill me.

Thank you for the kind invitation, but I think I better decline.

All right, let's take this discussion to THFGT.  It's important.  How and when
we get our news rocks.

Let's go.

How about "puke?"

Just joking, Leon.

And, not looking to get into THFGT territory, but . . . .

Regarding newspapers, yes, unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer (back when
my father was young, New York city had ten or twelve daily newspapers).

However, with the Internet and cable television, I'd say there are probably
more, and more diverse sources of news than before.  One can argue about the
quality and reliability of some of these sources, but one could make the same
arguments about old media as well.

Please.

I just ate breakfast.

I'm cuddled up in my favorite easy gliding easy chair with my laptop with
separate wireless mouse and keyboard reading the GatorNews, and the first thing
I find out is:  "Vomit dripping from his chin strap, Florida receiver Riley
Cooper stared an overmatched Charleston Southern cornerback in the eyes
Saturday night and then sprinted straight for him."

"Vomit dripping from his chin strap,..."  Please give me a break.  Stretch for
an interesting metaphor, try enuendo, make a suggestive remark, but please
don't say 'vomit' as the first word in any sentence.

Jeesh!

Particularly not in a morning newspaper.

BTW, Helen might help on this, are there any afternoon papers left?  I doubt if
there are.  Many  of the morning papers are having trouble.  The monopolization
of American enterprise continues.

Anyway, 'vomit' is not the first word I want to read in anything.

'Nuff said.

Florida Gators' Riley Cooper paving the way for success
By JOSEPH goodman  [email protected]

Florida wide receiver Riley Cooper (11) runs for yardage after catching a pass
as he is chased by Charleston Southern cornerback Chris Kuzdale (24) during the
first half of an NCAA college football game in Gainesville, Saturday, Sept. 5,
2009.
Vomit dripping from his chin strap, Florida receiver Riley Cooper stared an
overmatched Charleston Southern cornerback in the eyes Saturday night and then
sprinted straight for him.
Cooper faked to the inside ever so slightly before cutting off his route and
biting hard for the sideline. The cornerback never had a chance.
Quarterback Tim Tebow hit Cooper in stride for a first down. It was Cooper's
third reception in a row in Florida's new no-huddle offense.
Cooper motioned to the sidelines. He needed a replacement, but before he could
make it off the field, Cooper became ill and vomited. He had the flu. His night
was over -- or so he thought.
