Keith,

This post is a keeper! I really got a chuckle out of the sex comment.

P.S. Chopping wood helps but it sometimes (often) gets to be like work.
Personally, I like getting on some of my big boy toys (tractor or backhoe) and
making some mess out in the field.

<<How does a non-drinker (and obviously non-drug user) relax these days?>>

You're asking me? One of the most uptight people around? One of the biggest
bitches when the Gators do poorly or lose?

I've tried a lot of things - but nothing seems to work as well as the old days.
Sex, alcohol, drugs, and rock and roll are the standards.

I'm married so sex is out. I'm responsible so alcohol and drugs are out. Kids
wonder why I love rock and roll so much. But rock and roll is not enough.

Hobbies are suppose to help one relax. And I'm a guy - so I like blowing
things up. Guys like danger, fire (that's why we hate cooking - but love
grilling), blowing things up.

So a hobby that allows you to blow things up in a huge ball of fire must be the
most relaxing.

I thought about joining the national guard but I was too old (no prior military
experience) and had a bad knee. I'd love to sit round and throw hand grenades
and shoot 155 mm projectiles from tanks, howlitzers, etc.

If I got to drop some of those bunker buster bombs - I'd be relaxed for weeks!
Wouldn't that be cool to be able to design and test bunker buster bombs?

The closest thing I could come up with was shooting sports. I figure that is
why the game of "trap" was invented. Most anyone can shoot a shotgun, the clay
pigeon is always right out there in front of you (easy), the game goes very
fast. You can go out and shoot 100 shotgun rounds in less than one hour.

Although trap does reduce stress - its too easy. So I do defensive pistol
shooting instead. Small explosion, fire shoots out the end of the gun, danger
involved (that you don't shoot yourself or someone else) and a hobby. Meets
most of the standard guy requirements.

It helps - but still not as good as the good ol days. I'm still mad as hell
when the Gators lose.

Back 25 years ago - when the Gators lost - you just went to another party and
it was no big deal. Sometimes it would take several days or even a week before
we knew the Gators had lost (and we had been at the game).

You should blog this somewhere. EVERYWHERE!

Although, I have no plans to return to my college days, I totally agree with
your theory. Some would say I never left my college days, but that's only
because they didn't know me then. Those who knew me back then, REALLY can see a
difference in me now. I have definitely "grown up", and IMHO, being "uptight"
comes with the territory. After raising two kids, multiple career changes (some
planned, some not), worrying about the economy and seeing retirement racing
toward me in less than 10 years, what else is there?

I would LOVE to be able to relax when we're playing, but now I'm paying
attention to the game and not wondering if my rum-n-coke will be empty if/when
I finally get it back after being passed around in the stands. Or getting a
whiff of weed from several rows away and wondering if it will be passed in my
direction.

Now, I notice things like dropped passes, fumbles, missed field goals, fouls,
etc. Back then, after a healthy consumption of rum-n-coke, I was more concerned
with the line at the restroom. Just being at the game was enough. It was a
party.

So, Dr. Keith. How does a non-drinker (and obviously non-drug user) relax these
days?

Randy

Start drinking again,

Start smoking some weed,

Start worrying about mixing the green pills with the red pills means "go" or
"stop",

Start trying to remember - is it the mushrooms with the purple band around
them?, etc.

I remember the good old days in 1979 - we went 0-10-1 - and we didn't care.
Everything was cool. That was back when we had a beer hall in the center of
campus - the Orange and Brew. Everybody was having a good time.

Now that we have stopped doing what got us here - we're complaining about an
undefeated team ranked #1 in the nation.

University and city officals want less drinking, no parking in yards, etc.
Everyone is too uptight.

We all need to go back to what got us here and mellow out

Think I'll call in sick at work and wait for the liquor store to open.

Shots of Wild Turkey for everyone! Not just for Thanksgiving anymore!
