I read an article last night on the Internet stating that, because Weis was busy preparing for the Super Bowl after he was hired by Notre Dame, his first recruiting class was extremely thin, consisting of only fifteen kids.
The writer's point was that this year's team lacks the senior leadership that can make the difference between winning and losing, especially the close games. However, a player signed in February of 2005 would have used up his eligibility by the end of the 2008 season, unless he was redshirted. So this year's seniors are Weis' second group of signees. Consequently, I don't know it the writer's point is valid. I wonder how Urban's 2005 signee class was regarded compared to Weis', in the minds of the recruiting services. In general, I believe those who follow recruiting closely regard Urban's 2005 group as being the least attractive of his recruiting classes. On the field, they won two National Championships and two SEC Championships. Go Gators!!!! Ken B.
