This is really bad. We're off to a terrible start here. Amanda's third year.
Should have some improvement by now.

UF women's basketball falls to 3-4

With 12:28 remaining in the Florida women's basketball game against visiting
Florida A&M on Tuesday, Jordan Jones went up for one of her typically deadly
jumpers from the right elbow. The shot circled the rim, then rested to a
halt on the back of the iron. Players had to get another ball to knock the
stalled one down.

It was one of those nights for the Gators.

When a team relies on its outside shot to fuel its offense like Florida
does, there are nights when it'll look unbeatable and games where the squad
looks out of its league. UF had moments of both Tuesday. A late rally wasn't
enough to overcome a Rattler attack that led the team to its first win over
Florida since 1986 with a 72-71 win.

Florida (3-4) scored 11 straight points in the final 48 seconds and brought
the score within one on a Jones 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining. Trumae
Lucas wasn't able to hold off a streaking Tameka McKelton, who grabbed a
deep inbounds pass to end the game just before it went out of bounds.

The Gators held a 12-0 lead to start the game as the Rattlers (4-2) missed
their first seven shots and first three from long range. FAMU regained its
confidence after the sluggish start and connected on 21 of its next 36
shots, including nine-of-13 from behind the arc.

Florida A&M caught fire after stopping the opening run and connected on six
shots from 3-point range to take a four-point lead with 7:17 until the half.
The Gators responded with an 11-2 run over 5:42 to regain a 37-34 lead
heading into intermission.

"We played a lot more hopeful than tough," said Gators coach Amanda Butler,
who led her team into its fourth game in eight days, "and hope isn't going
to win you ball games."

A Jennifer George layup was all Florida could muster in the opening 4:57 of
the second half as the Rattlers reeled off a 16-3 run to take the lead for
good. UF had little answer for the quick-footed visitors, who attacked
quickly following Gator points and played a transition game that at times
seemed two steps faster than Florida.

"Effort isn't a word that we should use in reference to how we played,"
Butler said. "If we're going to talk about effort, then we need to talk
about FAMU, because they were the ones that played with effort and a sense
of urgency. Every possession was important (to them)."

Florida connected on 24-of-65 shots (36.9 percent) and 7-of-29 (24.1) from
3-point range. FAMU hit on 29-of-56 (51.8) from the field and 9-of-17 (52.9)
from long range and out-rebounded the Gators 38-35. The Gators were led by
Azania Stewart's 17 points. Steffi Sorensen added eight points, a
career-high seven assists and fell one shy of a career high with 12
rebounds. Four Rattler players scored in double figures, led by Tameka
McKelton’s 27 points.
