Bear Bryant damn near killed players as well...we know so much more about
dehydration, concussions, etc. than we did back in the good ole days. No coach
can get away with the stuff guys like Bryant and Hayes did and I think that's
probably a good thing. If Leavitt had told the truth there is a slim chance he
could have survived, but to hit a player then lie about it, well, would you
want a guy like that coach UF, no matter how successful? Not me.

I admit that I don't know what the circumstances are in this case - but let
me phrase it a different way.
If you threw every coach out of football that ever struck a player - most
coaches would be gone.
Then they'd all be soccer players!
Football players are suppose to be the toughest SOBs you ever met. Let's not
turn them into soccer players.
I wonder what Bear Bryant would have to say about this?

I'm not sure in today's climate if he could have survived hitting a player,
but hitting a player and then *lying* about it put the USF administration in a
tight spot and they didn't really have much choice.
