Clemson's Charlie Harbison Tells Dabo Swinney He's Staying

Dabo Swinney has dodged another bullet and continues to successfully keep his sought-after defensive coaches on staff.

Less than a month after Tennessee nearly snagged Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele's services, Florida began a brief flirtation with Clemson's defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison. The Gators are currently seeking a defensive coordinator to replace George Edwards.

Today, that flirtation ended with Harbison telling head coach Dabo Swinney that he will  remain at Clemson. Harbison has had several stints on the Florida coaching staff over the years, and many thought his ties to the area could be beneficial to the Gators.

Harbison is consistently a top national recruiter and an important part of Clemson's recruiting success. He was the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State in 2008 before joining the Clemson staff.

Arizona Cardinals secondary coach Teryl Austin now appears to be the leading candidate for the Gators vacant coordinator position.
