The newspaper claims that a wealthy St. John's alum offered Donovan a contract in excess of $3 million per year, but that the Gators coach politely declined. Donovan currently makes around $3.5 million with the Gators, and led the team to back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007. Last week, the Gators were bounced from the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to BYU in double overtime. Donovan should have most of his team returning next season, and the New York Daily News cites that the coach thinks St. John's is a "reclamation project."
