No, but if I read the Herald every day it'll seem longer.

Never mind, I just read the article, something I rarely do with the
Herald/Post.

Didn't James sign with someone as a free agent?

As in sales, I think it was a "what have you done lately?". He was fantastic
in '07 and '08, but by '09, the other teams had his number and I don't
really remember seeing that much "star power" out of him. He couldn't make
'em miss like he used to.

Weekend wrap-up: Everything you ever wanted to know about the Gators and the

Time to wrap up this weekend's NFL Draft as it pertains to the Florida
Gators - facts, quotes and interesting tidbits about the 12 Gators who have
joined an NFL roster.
FINAL SCORECARD
Historic draft for the Gators - nine players drafted, most for any school in
the nation and second-most in program history (they had 10 in 1978, but the
draft was also 12 rounds long).
The Gators also had three players sign as undrafted free agents.

Browns GM Mike Holmgren on Joe Haden: "He is one of the great young men that
I've ever had the privilege of studying and meeting. So as far as how we
feel about this first pick, I really believe that we hit a home run. There
has been a lot of speculation about what our approach to the draft was, what
we decided to do and all of that. This young guy was in our sights from
awhile ago. We feel very fortunate to have been able to draft him."

Joe Haden on his first 24 hours after being drafted: "I still don't believe
that I play for the Browns, you know what I'm saying? It's kind of crazy.
You go from high school football, having a good time, then you go to Florida
and that was a big jump. Then, you are playing with Tebow, Percy and you are
all having a good time and you win the national championship. Then, you play
for the Browns. It's just like, dang. It's crazy. First round pick, top 10
and then my phone won't stop vibrating in my pocket right now. People just
are all texting you and congratulating you. It's just a dream come true."
Joe Haden on his love of LeBron James: "I was so excited about Cleveland, I
was like 'Now he can't go anywhere because it might break my heart.' I'm
trying to figure out a way that I can get in touch with him, text him or
something and take him out to eat and make sure he doesn't leave."
Joe Haden, on the biggest starts he met at the Draft: "Deion Sanders . Barry
Sanders . Colonel Sanders. I did go to KFC."
Kevin Colbert, Pittsburgh Steelers director of football operations, on
drafting Maurkice Pouncey: "I don't think there was any big secret or
surprise, because I think that every mock draft I saw had us picking
Maurkice Pouncey."

Pittsburgh offensive line coach Sean Kugler on teaching Maurkice Pouncey
offensive game plans, line calls and audibles, erasing the dry-erase board
and asking Pouncey to re-teach everything he just said: "He was right on the
money. Sometimes guys struggle with that, the retention of it. A big part of
football is the way you retain things in the classroom and carry them out to
the football field and then ultimately to the game. He was awesome. You
would really have to have a true knowledge, because you can't get up there
and just BS your way through it. He's just a gym rat when it comes to
football."
Jermaine Cunningham, on his reaction when Brandon Spikes was also drafted by
the Patriots: "My whole house, my family, everybody just started going
crazy. That's just the bond that me and him have."
Brandon Spikes on being drafted by the Patriots: "This is like a childhood
dream."
Bill Belichick on drafting Aaron Hernandez in the fourth round: "We were
surprised we were able to draft him. He has a good opportunity to help us at
that position."
Bill Belichick on the Gators' program: We were in Florida and I felt like we
were working out half of the first and second round. We saw all those guys -
Tim Tebow and all the offensive players, [Maurkice] Pouncey and all them.
Then, we saw the defensive players - Dunlap, Spikes, Cunningham and all of
them. It was the day after their Pro Day down there. It was a good meeting
like it always is with Florida. Those kids are very focused on football.
Football's important to them. They're in a good program. It's important for
them to win. They know what they are doing. They've worked hard both on and
off the field. They're extremely well-coached by Coach [Urban] Meyer and his
staff, so it's a lot of fun to sit down and talk football with them.
Bill McCartney, former University of Colorado football coach and founder of
the Promise Keepers Christian Men's Ministry: "Tim Tebow is a lightning rod.
This transcends football. There is an anointing on Tim and his family. He's
one of those guys who comes along who has God's handprints all over him."
(via Denver <http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_14948943?source=pkg> Post)
Bears GM Jerry Angelo on Major Wright playing as a true freshman at UF: "We
know what kind of defense they play at Florida. So to come in and play right
away at Florida, you've got to be a pretty special athlete, and he was."
Bears head coach Lovie Smith on Major Wright being the team's first pick of
the 2010 draft: "You hate to talk about rookies being one of the starters
right away. But I think when you pick a player, you just look at our history
a little bit. He's our first draft pick coming in this year. We are
expecting big things from him. I think it is safe to say that."
Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid on Riley Cooper: "Coop is a big, strong,
physical receiver. He did a tremendous job in the red zone. He's got great
body control and can go up and get the football. He's a tenacious blocker;
he's really a tough guy. "
Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer on Carlos Dunlap's DUI: "That was
thoroughly investigated. Obviously it was not a good time to have a DUI
arrest (before the SEC Championship Game) - there's never a good time to
have a DUI arrest - but particularly this one."
Dunlap on the DUI: "That was the only incident I've ever had on my record. I
never had anything before that, and I won't ever have any more. I thought it
might affect my draft stock, but right now I'm just happy to be a Bengal."
ODDS AND ENDS
- Florida had a school record six players drafted in the first two rounds.
The previous school record was four.
- UF had three players selected by the New England Patriots. The school
record for most UF players selected by a single team in one draft was the
Chicago Bears with four in 2003.
- The Gators have now had 42 first-round picks in school history.
-Urban Meyer's 2006 and 2007 recruiting classes so far have produced 11
draft picks: 4 first-round picks, 3 second-round picks, 1 third-rounder, 2
fourth-rounders, 1 fifth-rounder, and 1 NFL Rookie of the Year (Percy
Harvin). Those two classes will likely contribute 2-6 more high draft picks
next year.
- Florida is one of two schools to have a wide receiver selected in each of
the last five NFL Drafts. During that time frame, Florida is tied with two
schools for the most receivers drafted, with seven.
- Patriots fans especially love the Brandon Spikes selection for reasons
other than football - Spikes is dating UF volleyball player Callie Rivers,
daughter of Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. "Big guy, big for an inside
linebacker," Belichick said of Spikes
<http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/rap_sheet/index.php/2010/04/24/so-
brandon-spikes-is-dating-doc-rivers-daughter-awesome/> . "Very highly
respected. and of course, came with a good recommendation from Doc. Of
course, I appreciated that. He can keep an eye on him up here, keep his
daughter a little closer to home."
-The SEC had 49 players selected in the 2010 NFL Draft, the most ever for
the league. The SEC also had the most players taken among conferences in the
draft: Big Ten (34), ACC (31), Big 12 (30) and Pac-10 (29).
