Wow, go away for a week and everything changes! Randy, I can't adequately
express my thanks for your work over the years. When I lived in New Zealand,
this really was my only lifeline to the Gator Nation (even if we didn't call
it that yet). I will always be grateful for that. Steve, thanks for stepping
up and taking over. I know GatorNet is in great hands. And Jerry, as always,
thanks for your work with Randy and now with Steve. Most of us are free
riders, but we recognize and appreciate all that you guys do.

Subject: [gatornews] GatorNet Administrative Announcement

Fellow Gators,

In 1999, it became evident that Gatortalk needed a "relief valve" for
discussion that was prohibited by GatorNet policy. Primarily, that was
discussion of non-gator subjects such as religion and/or politics. The
GatorNet Administrator at that time was Ray Hines (GatorCountry.com) and he
asked if I would be willing to moderate that group, and I accepted.

Too Hot for Gatortalk (THFGT) was born and still exists today with around
25-30 members, who discuss anything and everything anyone wishes to
introduce to the group.

A year later, with the increased popularity of GatorCountry.com, Ray was
feeling the pressure of the full-time responsibility of his web site and the
part-time labor of love known as GatorNet. He asked me if I would accept the
position of Administrator over all of GatorNet, and once again, I accepted.

After enduring several early "tests" from a couple of subscribers that
resulted in their banning, I decided the "monarch" approach to GatorNet
wasn't very effective, and decided to appoint an assistant on whom I could
confer with and make decisions together instead of alone. Roughly a year
later, I asked Dr. Jerry Belloit if he would accept the position as
Moderator, and he accepted.

Jerry has been a good faithful gator, a friend, a sounding-board, and a fine
lieutenant for the last ten years. He still serves as the GatorNet
Moderator.

However, after over ten years of serving as your GatorNet Administrator, I
have decided to step down. This has been a long-delayed decision as I have
wrestled with it for over two years, but now the time just feels right.
Effective today, Steve McKibben, whom many of you that subscribe to
GatorTalk already know, will replace me as the Administrator.

It should be noted here that Jerry was offered the position, as would be
appropriate, but he declined saying he was happy just being the "assistant".
I began a vetting process, and several weeks ago, Steve accepted the
position.

This has TRULY been a labor of love, and I can't tell you how much of an
honor it has been to serve in this capacity. Thank you for putting up with
me all these years.

Randy Lyons

GatorNet Administrator
