Yes, but with the advent of the 16 team mega conferences, NO ONE will be playing out of conference games anymore. The nice matchups will all disappear as they all have a full in conference schedule. Out of conference matchups will disappear...

But there are pollsters out there who do look at who you play out of conference as well.. .and lets say you have 4 teams who are 12-0.... Out Of conference schedule would probably be a determining factor as to who is 1,2 3 and 4 especially if some of them are from the same conference.
