No. Back then, I had a '72 Barracuda. Wish I still had it. L

It could've been your motorcycle. Do you own a truck?

Personally, I see no surprise there.

While my wife's killer good looks was what first attracted me to her, I'm
sure she will say it was my charm, incredible wit, brilliant intellect, and
lack of conceit that attracted her. Of course, my Spartan physique was just
an added perk for her.

Then again, I guess it COULD'VE been my motorcycle and "Rebel without a
Cause" attitude. ;-)

UF study: Women crave 'authenticity' in their partners

Aren't you glad your tax dollars are being put to such good use? A new
University of Florida study backs up what soap operas and Lifetime movies
have been saying for the longest time - women are more concerned with
finding "authenticity" in a partner than men.
The study, which was published in the June issue of Personality and
Individual Differences, is the summation of about two to three years of
research and analysis of couples, mostly comprised of undergraduates.
Couples in the study had to have been in an exclusive relationship for at
least three months, although the average time span for the couples was 18
months.
According to Gregory Webster, a psychology professor at UF who served as one
of the researchers in the study, such results may be tied to undergraduate
women having more mature relationship goals than males, although researchers
couldn't place their finger on the exact reason behind the gender
discrepancy.
"On average, men tend to value good looks more so than women, whereas women
tend to value more social status in men than men do in women," Webster said.
Those who participated in the study were asked a round of questions on
topics ranging from authenticity, intimacy and relationship satisfaction
among other topics. Although Webster conceded that such abstract concepts
can be difficult to quantify in a study, such concepts, he believes, share a
direct correlation with the level of happiness in relationships.
"I think the real take-home message of this study is to be faithful with
your partner," he said.
Steve Nixon, a senior civil engineering senior at UF, attributes the
differences in modes of communication between the two sexes as the leading
factor behind why women do not perceive intimacy from their male
counterparts.
Nixon's reasoning, he believes, is mostly tied to his experiences as he
recently ended an 11-month relationship with his girlfriend. While his
girlfriend perceived his behavior as a lack of caring, Nixon asserts that
other factors, such as fear of looking sentimental in front of male friends
along with a natural reluctance to romantically open up, can lead to such a
misconception.
But Jessica Keys, a UF advertising senior who has been in a relationship for
more than four years, doesn't buy into the notion that men are programmed to
be emotionally detached.
"I wouldn't say it's harder for men to open up," she said. "I think it has
to do more with their character and their past."
In the case of Keys' relationship, she admitted that it did take a while,
two years to be exact, for her boyfriend to "open up" emotionally. Since
then, she said, it has made things a lot easier.
"In a long-term relationship, you're on a more level playing field because
you're more familiar with each other," she said.
For Webster, differences in views on this matter are not only common but are
to be expected.
"Relationships are dynamic and malleable," he said. "There will always be
people who are an exception to the rule."
