Tim Tebow didn't disappoint the Denver faithful with his last second heroics, Riley Cooper showed that he's catching on quick for Philadelphia and Brandon Spikes made a serious case for the starting middle linebacker spot in New England. As of now there are 42 Gators in the NFL and almost every player, barring injury, will see significant playing time over the course of the preseason. Here are the top performers from week one: Riley Cooper, Philadelphia Eagles The rookie receiver hauled in three catches for 61 yards on August 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cooper is in great position to become the Eagles' fourth receiver on the depth chart. Cornelius Ingram saw game action for the first time in 32 months, but he did not record any statistics. QB Rex Grossman, Washington Redskins Grossman completed 11 of 16 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills on August 13, including a 44-yarder to Devin Thomas. He appears to have the Redskins back-up job all but locked up. CB Joe Haden, Cleveland Browns In the Browns 27-24 victory over the Green Bay Packers on August 14, Haden had three solo tackles and one pass deflection. KR Brandon James, Indianapolis Colts James had four kick returns for 99 yards (avg. 24.8, long 28), one punt return for five yards and one reception for two yards against the San Francisco 49ers on August 15. WR David Nelson, Buffalo Bills Rex Grossman wasn't the only Gator who impressed in the Bills-Redskins preseason match-up. David Nelson was one of four Gators who saw action for Buffalo, but his performance stood out the most. The undrafted rookie had a team-high five receptions for 47 yards and one touchdown. Another Gator receiver, Chad Jackson, caught one pass for four yards. Linebacker Andra Davis registered two tackles and Jason Watkins received some reps on the offensive line in the 42-17 loss to the Redskins. After showing promise in his NFL preseason debut, Nelson went down with a right leg injury on Tuesday and had to be carted off the practice field. Head coach Chan Gailey said, "it doesn't look good," and he is out indefinitely for the time being. Reggie Nelson, Jacksonville Jaguars The former UF safety had five solo tackles and one pass deflection against the Phildelphia Eagles on August 13. Defensive ends Derrick Harvey and Jeremy Mincey each registered two tackles for the Jaguars. Brandon Spikes, New England Spikes made a team-high eight tackles (three solo) against the New Orleans Saints on August 12. Fellow rookie Aaron Hernandez had three receptions for 26 yards and one carry for six yards, while defensive tackle Gerrard Warren registered three tackles. Jermaine Cunningham (concussion) and Fred Taylor did not play for the Patriots. QB Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos Tebow completed 8 of 13 passes for 105 yards and scrambled 7 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the game. Two of his incompletions were drops that could have gone for scores as well. Jabar Gaffney had two receptions for 37 yards, and Jarvis Moss and Marcus Thomas also saw limited action for the Broncos in their 33-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on August 15. S Major Wright, Chicago Bears The third-round pick had seven tackles (six solo) against the San Diego Chargers on August 14. This week Wright will have surgery on his broken left index finger. The procedure will sideline him when the Bears face the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, but he's not expected to miss any regular-season action. Here are the rest of the former Florida Gators who will take the field this preseason: Alex Brown, New Orleans Saints Andre Caldwell, Cincinnati Bengals Cooper Carlisle, Oakland Raiders Joe Cohen, Detroit Lions (reserve) Channing Crowder, Miami Dolphins Carlos Dunlap, Cincinnati Bengals Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings Earnest Graham, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Billy Latsko, San Diego Chargers Bobby McCray, New Orleans Saints Ray McDonald, San Francisco 49ers Drew Miller, St. Louis Rams Kestahn Moore, Arizona Cardinals Louis Murphy, Oakland Raiders Maurkice Pouncey, Pittsburgh Steelers Lito Sheppard, Minnesota Vikings Brandon Siler, San Diego Chargers Max Starks, Pittsburgh Steelers Phil Trautwein, St. Louis Rams -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us
