I will admit that Himes and Gilislee were the most impressive offensive
players yesterday. I am not prepared to change the plan based on the
results of one game. My issue was the poor performance by the OL.
Discounting the bad snaps, we essentially started 5 guys in new positions
and it showed. Pouncey playing center like a guard, Halapio looked like a
swinging door, and Hurt too slow at tackle. Enough about the OL. Just for
the record I was impressed WR downfield blocking or lack thereof either.
Granted Demps and Rainey can be knocked over by a stiff wind, but their
production was not for lack of effort. I agree with Shane, we need to be
patient as we get all this sorted out. It may take time and may cost us
some games, but UM has consistently developed his teams to take advantage of
his players talent. That is why we pay UM the big bucks.

Subject: [gatortalk] Rumors, stubbornness and Playmakers

Rumors are that Florida coaches told Pouncey that if he came back - he could
move to center and become best center in America - ala his brother. I think
Pouncey will correct the problem - even though he does not how - but what if
he doesn't? Would Meyer's stubbornness, I mean loyalty, prevent Meyer from
replacing Pouncey if we continue to see problems in USF game?

Speaking of stubbornness, I mean loyalty, and playmakers - Meyer did take
away from the first game what everyone else took away.

Most people saw Gillislee and Hines busting their butts whenever they
touched the ball and Rainey, Demps, and Moody giving up at first contact.

If you take away that one run by Demps, his average was 7 attempts and 30
yards = 4.3 yards per carry (still better than I thought) but half of
Gillislee's 9.2 yards per carry

What most people took away was Gillislee and Hines are our playmakers and
should be starting at RB and slot in place of Rainey, Demps, and Moody.

But Meyer thinks that he needs to get Demps and Moody more involved!

"If you give him his crease, that's a good day for the Gators," coach Urban
Meyer said. "We've just got to utilize him more. We've got to get him and
Moody going because they're really good players."

IMHO - that is the wrong conclusion. The right conclusion is that Demps and
Moody need to be demoted to second string and Gillislee promoted to first
string.
