My two cents worth of input regarding UF (and other institutions of higher
learning) fighting the use of logos:

1. It's not actually the universities that are pushing for the high
schools to stop using the logos - it's the licensing's law firm that is
making the mountain out of a molehill.

2. At my the school where I teach, we have one day each week that we can
wear a school shirt (polo-style or t-shirt) with jeans. A college/university
shirt may be substituted. I haven't received a cease & desist order (yet)
for wearing the Orange & Blue in the land of Burnt Orange & White. And there
are plenty of lawyers around this place.

3. Also - we are encouraged to get the 6th - 8th graders thinking about
colleges & universities to attend. Wow! Just think - You can't have a logo,
but we'll gladly take your tuition!

4. What happened to "Imitation is the highest form of flattery."?

5. The most outrageous story that I've heard regarding logo usage: I have
a lanyard from the UTx department of kinesiology (I serve as a cooperating
teacher for UTX student observers, interns, & apprentice teachers). The
Longhorn logo on the lanyard is an alteration of the official Longhorn
silhouette. The UTx athletics department (& maybe even the very same
licensing firm) would not allow the use of the official logo. Yep - a
department that's very close to the university's athletics department
couldn't have the use of the university's own logo!

Ridiculous, stupid & completely frivolous lawyering. Stopping institutions
of learning from promoting an institution of learning. Groucho Marx couldn't
come close to the silliness of the whole thing.
