I am under the general opinion that all most all teams script a certain number of plays to start the game. 15, 30 the number doesn't really matter, the reason is to probe for weaknesses, after that is just a game of adjustments. Saturday, proved that at least the coaching staff can create a diverse game plan. I believe Addazio has the title of OC, but I believe that Azzanni, Drayton, Loeffler, and White all contribute, with Meyer having the final vote, so if Vitamin A is going to take the blame, Addazio should get the credit. On Saturday night, Addazio did pretty well. A lot has been said about our play in the second quarter, I agree that UK made some adjustments which took away some of what we were doing in the first quarter, but I am not sold on fact that the coaching staff didn't re-adjust or reverted back as much as we just played poorly in the second quarter, i.e. botched snap, penalties, overthrows, etc etc. My reasoning is based on the fact that after we came out for 3rd quarter, we seemed to execute better, got the offense going and never looked back. I do believe there is something to, as Addazio says, "keeping on schedule". Anyway, I liked what we did offensively, I agree we showed improvement, and I agree that I hope we keep getting better.
I am also of the opinion that the vertical passing game is still a work in progress. I feel we have progressively attempted more vertical passes as the season has progressed so. The execution has suffered, dropped passes and overthrows, but the number of attempts has increased with each successive game. With all the playmakers we have, we should be able to mix it up more than Adazzio does. If the defense adjusts after 2 scripted drives, there would be an equal adaptation to whatever we change to after a few drives. Last game was much better, let's hope it keeps trending that way... When they do, you won't be able to keep calling the same plays. You see this type of thing all the time. The 2005 Georgia game is a good example.
