I think I am the "someone who rarely posts" who "fired off the entitlement email." It is true that I rarely post, but I have been part of this group going back to the Prodigy days on my Commodore 64. There have been times when I have not posted for years at a time, but usually because gatorzone.com would block emails I sent from whatever email system I was on at the time. Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately depending on your perspective, I am currently able to send emails to the list and will start posting occasionally again. My original email that seems to have kicked off a "sordid affair" that "mushroomed" was actually about "my opinion" that there is an attitude difference between us older generation gator fans and gator fans who have come along more recently. What I was trying to say, and must have said poorly, was that there is a process to developing a football team and that it doesn't happen in an instant, but that in the opinion of this old football fan, watching the process of development is an enjoyment in itself. It is very rare that any team is going to play at peak effeciency for every single game of an entire season. In fact, I can't even think of an example where it has happened. And it is my opinion that fans who don't appreciate the process of development are missing something really fun, interesting, and even beautiful. It seems like, in my opinion, that those fans not only miss something really, really enjoyble, but also make themselves miserable at the same time. The thing that really sets me off, and does tend to bring me out of very long term lurk mode, is when some of these fans who are making themselves miserable at unmet expectations start visciously attacking the best coaching staff I have seen yet at developing a team over an entire season. I actually think that last year was possible their worst job of coaching, but I am willing to forgive them because in my opinion there were some unprecedented circumstances, including tebow mania, that made the entire season very strange. Besides, 13-1 is a keeper. As for this year, I do have concerns even after the KY game. In fact, I now have a new concern that we may become too predictable in the red zone now that Trey has been discovered. However, where I think I differ from some who are not as old and worn out as I am, is that I do wear pollianna brand orange and blue glasses so I trust this great coaching staff to give us the best season achievable with this collection of experience and talent that we have on this team. I will celebrate every win no matter the score and I will enjoy every minute of watching these guys develop and grow. Even if there is no championship earned this year, and I am a long way from giving up on that hope, I will still enjoy this season and look forward to a large group of these guys coming back next year to try again. And every once in a while, I will "fire off" a post that will hurt the feelings of someone who posts a lot more often than I do if I think they are unfairly criticizing a staff who has earned every bit of our trust and respect.
