Helen, I did notice a lot of long hair on the Dazzler's, along with other
attributes, but didn't draw any conclusions. Is it a current fad to wear
hair long? I could see it as an advantages, now that I have little hair
left, to have a lot of hair in winter. Only speaking for me, pixie hair cuts
are still cute.

I do believe the lousy and undependable play of the football team has cast
an aura of malaise over the athletic program. Hopefully, we will get over it
because we have a lot of other great athletic teams.

We are having fantastic low humidity, cool nights and perfect days in
Florida great for doing anything outdoors. Paula and I will take your
advise and walk the Withlacoochie trail. We try to do at least 10,000 steps
a day, same as Randoo.

Subject: [gatortalk] Some random observations from a Gainesville weekend
that son't involve commentary on the play calling last night.

The basketball team shows a lot of promise. After starting out on a definite
cold shooting streak, the Gators got it together and played a very good
game. The freshmen got significant minutes and Scottie Wilbekin in
particular is one to watch. I doubt that they have the firepower to beat
Ohio State, but they could prove me wrong. Chandler Parsons' effort was very
impressive.

The basketball team wore five different styles of shoes. White with orange
trim appears to be standard issue. Alex Tyus stands out with all orange.
Vernon Macklin's are the best--combination orange and blue with white.

The Gator Dazzlers must be required to have long hair. Shouldn't
short-haired girls get a chance too?

The fan support for bb is disappointing. The season opener for a team that
could very well win the SEC should have been close to a sellout--especially
when you consider all the fans in town for the football game the next day.
Tuesday's game against Ohio State is still not sold out. Do Gator fans not
care about basketball any more? Are we unwilling to support a team unless
it's national championship material? In a bad mood because of football?

Speaking of fan support, I predict the bowl game will cost UF money because
they won't be able to sell the required tickets.

We happened to see the football team buses leaving the stadium Friday night
and on their way back into town Saturday. Looked like they were about 20
minutes late arriving for Gator Walk, which maybe was a bad omen.

The last two games, in lieu of tailgating, we have eaten at Gator Corner,
the campus dining hall southwest of the stadium. It's a mob scene before
game time and there are lines at the various food stations, but at $6 a head
for all you can eat, you can't beat the price. I had some very tasty shrimp
grits last night.

I don't quite get the new "card" section. They've got a group of students
(below the Work 'em Silly sign and to the south) who wear what appear to be
large bibs--orange on one side and blue on the other. A leader down on the
field holds up a "Get Ready" sign and then switches to "Go" when they are
supposed to do something. It looks very cool when they wave the bibs around.
However, when they (apparently) are attempting to form letters, it rarely
appears clear to me (across the field) just what they are trying to form.
Sometimes it might be an F and sometimes it might be a D (for defense), but
it doesn't look that great. Anybody know anything about what's going on?

It was a beautiful day in north central Florida. My day included a walk on
the Withlacoochee State Trail in Citrus County, which I definitely recommend
to you bicycle fans.
