Florida gained the 17th commitment in its 2011 recruiting class
Tuesday.
On the eve of National Signing Day, Coconut Creek North Broward
defensive end Tevin Westbrookgave Florida some early good news when
he gave his verbal pledge to the Gators' staff.
"He went and visited this weekend and he was very impressed with
the coaches and the coaching staff that Coach (Will) Muschamp is
bringing in," North Broward coach Roland Nottage said of
Westbrook's commitment. "He really likes (defensive line) coach
(Bryant) Young, too. He really liked the atmosphere there, too."
Nottage said Florida wasn't even a consideration for Westbrook
until he was offered in late January after the staff went down to
see him. His 6-foot-5, 260-pound frame along with the athleticism
they saw on film sold Florida's staff, Nottage said.
When Florida offered, Nottage said Westbrook was "definitely
excited" and pushed the Gators toward the top of his list. After
his official, Westbrook felt like Florida was the place for him,
Nottage said.
Westbrook, whom Rivals.com rates as a three-star prospect, is the
second defensive end in UF's class and will sign Wednesday. Nottage
said a signing ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. at North Broward.
"He's going to be a sponge and just try and learn everything,"
Nottage said. "Once he gets that motor going, the sky is the limit."
