She seems to have felt that her son was making a mistake or at least an emotional decision. If I would have felt that way, I suspect that I would have done my best to talk my child out of it. In the end, had my child persisted, I would have reluctantly signed the LOI and let him/her do what (s)he felt was best for their life.
