We are both beginning to sound like Baptist ministers, ya know. Anyway, I made some false assumptions after reading the earlier report: our boys weren't in the bar drinking. They said they went in the bar looking for a wallet they claim to have lost and got too close to a cashier counting up the evenings cash and were asked to leave by the bouncers.
Nothing was reported missing from the car they were reportedly hanging around in the parking lot. My UF law school training tells me these guys may not get charged with anything by the St. Johns County State Attorney. It depends on whether any damage was done to the car or other evidence of "attempting to break into an automobile". Unless they confessed, other than the reports of some already suspicious bar bouncers, what's the evidence of a crime being comitted? A. And...it doesn't make any sense. Play basketball and behave yourself and you'll have a good chance to be a millionaire for the rest of your life. Or...you could just get so drunk and obnoxious you get thrown out of a bar and break into some lousy car. Just sitting here with my head shaking over breakfast. A. News4Jax.com, the website for WJXT news in Jacksonville, first reported the story. St. Johns County Sheriff's Office booking mugs of Larson (left) and Murphy (right). Sophomore Erik Murphy and freshman Cody Larson were charged with felony burglary. A third individual, Joshua Adel, also was charged in connection with the crime. Adel told police he is a team manager for the basketball program. The report said Murphy and Larson were asked to leave a St. Augustine bar at 2 a.m. Shortly after that, bouncers from the bar called the police saying they saw the two trying to break into a vehicle. Both players were released from jail on $5,000 bond. Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan and the athletic department did not release a statement on the incident. Murphy, 20, is from South Kingstown, R.I. He played in 33 of the Gators’ 37 games last season, averaging 10.8 minutes and 4.3 points per contest. Larson, 19, red-shirted last season after coming to Florida from Sioux Falls, S.D. He received two years of probation in February 2010 for possessing and sharing Hydrocodone pills with a high school teammate. That agreement came with a 120-day suspended jail sentence, which he would only have to serve if he was arrested during his probation. Larson initially signed with Iowa, but was released from his letter of intent after the program fired coach Todd Lickliter. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us-- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us
