...and, let's not ever forget, by his behavior sending UF to NCAA penalty
pergatory, single-handedly elevated Miami and FSU into a ten-year wrestling
match over the MNC.

I'm sorry, Doc, but for me, the Pell altar in Gainesville can remain
non-existent.  It would soon become a gathering spot for FSU and Miami fans
anyway.

Not wanting to start an argument that an Ibis or Semi might enjoy just prior
to our kickoff of a new season, this will be my last post on 'good ole Charlie'
this year.

Ray Graves is one of my all time favorites.  I remember sitting in his office
while he told me the story behind a plaque he received from the Atlanta TD club
after beating Georgia Tech a year after leaving there as coach when he went for
two to win the game.  Ray Graves contribution to Florida Football was and still
is huge.

My point about Charlie Pell is that Pell changed the expectation level at
Florida.   To be sure SOS ratcheted it up still another level.

Yes he was.  The Silver Sixties were also made possible, and UF subsequently
rich, by his cooperation with Dr. Robert Cade in the successful testing of
Gatorade on the Gator teams.  We would be trailing at halftime, but come back
and beat them in the second half because of electrolyte replacement.

You know it's the off season when this old debate comes up again.  Why don't
y'all argue that it was Ray Graves who turned the program around?  Isn't he the
one who recruited SOS?  ;-)
