The move comes less than a year after a 20-year-old student at Notre Dame was killed when wind blew his temporary tower down. The towers at Florida are 35 feet tall, according to a press release on the program’s website. “It became apparent to us that this was the best thing to do,’’ said Dave Houts, the director of video services for Florida athletics. “What happened at Notre Dame is horrible. You just hope that never happens again.’’ The release said the Gators will still use mobile “scissor lifts,” but less so than in years past.
